Coach's Biographies

COACH TROY HEDGREN

Troy has been coaching with MAGIC since the beginning.  He founded Magic All-Stars in 1997.

Troy’s favorite thing about coaching is watching the kids grow up in his gym and seeing them accomplish great    things through hard work and perseverance.

Brief history of dance, gymnastics and/or cheer history….Troy cheered on Magic’s Super Nova Team (2005 King of the Bleachers National Champions)  He has been coaching gymnastics and tumbling since 1992 and has coached numerous school teams such as Aliso Niguel High School, Dana Hills High School, Laguna Hills High School, St. Edwards and Capo High School.

He has also choreographed for several all-star and school teams.   He is the head coach of the Magic All-Star Teams and judges frequently for the American Championships, the National Cheerleader’s Association (NCA), Jam Fest, Federation of Christian Cheerleader, Cheer Sport and Spiritleaders.

Troy and Magic All-Stars were also in the Disney Movie, “Gotta Kick It Up”

Troy’s favorite saying comes from a man he regards highly,  John Wooden  “much can be accomplished if you don’t care WHO gets the credit”  A hard concept for many to live by, but what a great life we would all live if everyone lived by it.

KERI HEDGREN

Keri was a Class 3 Advanced Optional Competitive Gymnast and holds the 1986 State Title for the Balance Beam.  She cheered in high school on the J/V and Varsity Squad and then went on to start coaching gymnastics.  Keri coached Level 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 teams from 1989-1997 at New Hope Academy of Gymnastics in Fountain Valley.  She coached numerous State Titles Champions.

Troy and Keri have been married for 15 years (in October) and have 3 children.  Aubree (12), Tyson (10) and Daely (5) + 2 crazy Golden Retrievers named Aera and Zona.  The owners reside in Laguna Niguel and attend Coast Hills Community Church in Aliso Viejo.

Keri currently runs the front office of Magic All-Stars.  She also has several side businesses.  She co-teaches a preschool drop off program every Friday for 2-5 year olds and is a consultant for Heritage Makers Digital Scrapbooks. 

 COACH CARLOS BEDOLLA

Carlos has been with MAGIC for 6 years and is currently the Academy Supervisor.

Carlos’ favorite thing about coaching is watching cheerleaders progress from being Hmmmm.... to "WOW

Brief history of cheer, gymnastics or dance background:  Cheering & Tumbling for 9 years, S.C.H.S Dance Team member, S.C.H.S Gymnastics team member, Palomar college cheerleader,2 time National champion with Orange Coast College, National champion with Magic’s college open team. **Carlos was also in the Movie “Dodge Ball” A True Underdog Story, Bring It On 3 and was the Payless Shoe Guy in 2006.    

Carlos’ philosophy or favorite saying: Falling is part of the learning process!

COACH ALI MILLER

# of Years at Magic: 3 years cheering, 2 years coaching classes and 5 years coaching Magic teams.

Ali’s favorite thing about coaching is seeing the kids get new skills that they have worked hard for and seeing the teams coming together.

Brief history of cheer, gymnastics or dance background: 3 years competing with Magic, 1 year at  Dana Hills (where Troy was her coach) ,2 years with Pop Warner cheer, 9 years dance and lots of gymnastics.  Ali graduated from Cal State University Long Beach in 2007. 

Ali’s philosophy or favorite saying: Reach for your goals and dreams with 100% effort. In the end you'll be able to look back and be proud of your accomplishments and cherish the memories you made along the way.

 COACH KYLE MAREMONT

  COACH IRAZMI PEREZ

Irazmi has been coaching with Magic for 4 seasons.

Her favorite thing about coaching is seeing kids gain confidence in themselves as they gain new skills. Watching the athletes build a sense of togetherness with their teammates as they conquer new challenges throughout the year.

Brief history of cheer, gymnastics or dance background.,,,Irazmi cheered at Mater Dei High School, 5-time NCA National Champion. She cheered at University of Arizona, and Danced on Hip Hop Team at University of Arizona. Competed with the top honored cheer program in the country, Cheer Athletics out of Dallas, TX for 2 years and captured the NCA National title in 2004. She has been coaching Nationally ranked youth, school and all-star teams for the past 9 years and was the coach of Univ. of California San Diego for the past two years. She is Am certified through the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors.  Irazmi also works for an architecture firm full time.

Irazmi’s philosophy or favorite saying:  Some of the most talented people did not succeed their first time around; if you want it that badly, DO NOT QUIT!

COACH RACHEL TONICK

This is Rachel’s third year coaching at Magic.  She is enjoying every moment of it. The girls, the families, and the fellow staff make it such a wonderful atmosphere.

What she loves most about coaching at Magic is being able to spread her love, knowledge, and talent of the sport with the cheerleaders.  She loves helping children set and work hard for their goals.   The best is seeing the athletes reach their goals.  When the cheerleaders at Magic improve and succeed, that is definitely the most rewarding experience to a coach.

Brief cheerleading, dance or gymnastics background:  Rachel has been coaching cheer for 6 years.  She has also been a gymnastics coach for 4.  She was a competitive gymnast until the age of 11 and then started her cheerleading career at Mission Viejo HS.  She competed at the Varsity level for 4 years and was on Orange Crush All Stars.  She cheered at Cal State Long Beach on the National Collegiate All Girl team 2 years in a row.  Rachel is currently still cheering on Orange Crush's All Girl Pro Team.  She graduated from CSULB in 2007, double majoring in Kinesiology Fitness and Nutrition. 

Rachel’s Favorite Saying:  "There is no "I" in TEAM!"

COACH HORACIO RODRIGUEZ

Horacio has been coaching with Magic All-Stars since 2004.  He is currently the Tumbling and Trampoline Director.

Horacio was involved in gymnastics for short time as a little boy, but after that was a track and field athlete the rest of his life. 

Horacio is a Certified Tumbling and Trampoline Level 1 Coach, USAG National Safety Certification, USAG, Certified Level II, Tumbling Judge, USAG Certified Level IV, Trampoline and Double mini judge, USAG Certified in Sport Conditioning and Nutrition, USSA, Daphne, Alabama.

Since 1983, Horactio has been coaching many athletes of many different sports such as bodybuilding, runners, jumpers and gymnasts.  From 2001 to 2004 he was the Tumbling Program Director at NGTC

In May 2004 became the Tumbling and Trampoline Program Director of Magic All Stars, in Laguna Hills.  He is also a Certified Personal Trainer at 24 Hour Fitness.

Horacio’s favorite thing about is coaching is the rewarding feeling that he’s helping athletes to reach their goals.

Philosophy on Coaching…I believe in progression.  Short goals are the keys to success.  His favorite saying is: “ Don’t try, DO IT”  “Are you scared?  Well do it anyway!

COACH MATT GALLACHER

Matt has been coaching at Magic All-Stars since October 2004.     
 
His favorite thing about coaching is being around people and seeing his students perform the skills he's taught them.
 
Brief history of gymnastics, cheer or dance background:  Matt has coached gymnastics at San Clemente Gymnastics Club since 
September 2001 and has coached at Magic since October 2004.  He has worked with the San Clemente High School and Laguna Hills High 
School cheerleaders in the past.  During his senior year at SCHS, he co-founded the Action Choreography Club.Gymnastics had been 
discontinued as a sport, the club brought back tumbling to the high school; the club performed at assemblies and school functions and its 
members were taught acrobatics and tumbling for free by Matt.  He cheered for UC Irvine from 2003-2004 and for Magic All Star's college 
open team from 2004-2005. 
 
His favorite saying or coaching philosophy is  "Don't get discouraged because there is always somebody better; remember that to many people, 
YOU are the “somebody better'"  (That is a Matt Gallacher original)
